Honoring Garrett Whelan
To educate, support, and empower brain tumor patients and their families. We aim to assist families in need through providing financial grants that allow patients to access treatment.
Garrett James Whelan
March 4th, 1981- October 5th, 2023
Surrounded by his loved ones, Garrett passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on October 5, 2023, at Sunnybrook Health Center in his 43rd year. Garrett Whelan, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Though you may no longer be with us in person, your spirit lives on in the memories we hold dear. May we find solace in knowing that your legacy will forever bloom in the gardens you tended, the homes you built, and the hearts you touched.

People on average in Canada are diagnosed with a brain tumor each day. It is estimated that 55,000 Canadians are surviving with a brain tumor. Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, with an estimated two in five Canadians being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

Different types of brain tumors, making effective treatments very complicated. The most common type of primary malignant brain tumor is glioblastoma. Average survival, even with aggressive treatment, is less than one year.

visits to your health care team is what you can expect in the first year of diagnosis. This includes surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, blood work, etc. That is on average at least once per week for a full year, making it very difficult to work, play, or live a normal life.
